Scofflaw

The City of Irving has entered into an agreement with Dallas County relating to the denial of motor vehicle registration as authorized under the Texas Transportation Code.

If you have warrants/fines that are outstanding, a block will be placed on your record preventing vehicle registration with the Dallas County Tax Assessor’s Office. Vehicle registration will not be allowed until there is a final disposition on all outstanding warrants/fines.

Scofflaw Process

Irving Municipal Court will send the Dallas County Tax Assessor’s Office a list of individuals with outstanding warrants/fines. The Tax Assessor’s Office will match these records with the Texas Department of Transportation vehicle database and put a Scofflaw flag on matching records. This will prevent registration of the vehicle until  the final disposition of all outstanding warrants/fines has occurred. Flagged records also will appear on the Dallas County Wanted Website at http://www.dallascounty.org/dcwantedsearch/. These records are accessible to the public.

Procedure for Removing Scofflaw Block

The only option for removal of the registration block at the Tax Assessor’s Office is the final disposition of all outstanding warrants/fines. Final disposition includes payment in full or completion of any court imposed program or option.

The Tax Assessor’s Office does not have access to Municipal Court records and cannot advise on matters related to the status of court case(s), other than that a block has been put on the registration of a vehicle.

Inquiries regarding the block on registrations or status of court case(s) must be directed to the Irving Municipal Court. The court may be contacted at (972) 721-2451, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Once all outstanding warrants/fines have been updated with a final disposition, the Court will provide a clearance letter for individuals to take to the Tax Assessor’s Office and the block will be removed allowing registration of the vehicle.
