This Week's Safety Topic
***According to the National Safety Council, falls are one of the leading causes of unintentional injuries in the United States, accounting for approximately 8.9 million visits to the emergency department.***
The Irving Fire Department asks that everyone please keep these safety tips in mind to help prevent SLIPS AND FALLS:
- Clean up all spills immediately
- Secure electrical and phone cords out of traffic areas
- Remove small throw rugs or use non-skid mats to keep them from slipping
- Remove tripping hazards (paper, boxes, books, clothes, toys, shoes) from stairs and walkways
- Periodically check the condition of walkways and steps, and repair damages immediately
- Never stand on a chair, table or other surface on wheels
Remember, May 20-26 is National EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Week.
Fire Safety Education
Schedule free fire safety education classes for any group, business, or organization located in the City of Irving. PLease provide at least 30 days notice to schedule a class.

Free Smoke Alarms
Your Irving Fire Department is providing and installing free smoke alarms to residents within the City of Irving. The only criterion for qualification is the residence must not be a rental property.

If you already have smoke alarms, remember to test them each month by pushing the test button down until it sounds. Remember to change smoke alarm batteries when you change your clocks at Daylight Savings Time. If your smoke alarm is over 10 years old it should be replaced.
